A Note on Communicating with Paul for Honey Bee Rescues

When reaching out to Paul for honey bee rescues, it’s important to know that he has aphasia, a condition that affects his ability to speak, but not his ability to think, understand, or communicate in other ways.

Paul can fully comprehend what you're saying, but he may need a bit more time to respond verbally. He might not be able to express everything clearly with words, but please know that he is mentally sharp and fully present.

When talking with him:

  • Speak slowly and clearly, giving him time to process.

  • Be patient and open, especially if he uses gestures to communicate.

  • Avoid raising your voice, he hears and understands just fine.

Understanding aphasia helps create a respectful space for meaningful communication and ensures we can all work together to protect the bees with care and compassion.
